Our electrician courses for Birmingham put the theory in your hands, at your own speed, and you come to Derby for the classroom and practical. These are courses for people already working with electrics, not a route into the trade from scratch.

Why these electrician courses suit Birmingham sparks
You are not giving up a week
That is the trade. A local classroom course takes your days whether you need them or not. Here you only lose the days you spend being assessed.
Commercial stock, and plenty of it
Offices, shops, factories and a big rented sector across the West Midlands. All of it needs inspecting, testing and certifying by somebody holding the 2391.
The green work is already here
Chargers on driveways and solar on roofs, domestic and commercial. Two courses, and both of them open work you cannot quote for today.

Training a team in Birmingham?
Contractors, facilities teams and housing providers book groups with us. Your people do the theory without leaving site, then travel to Derby together on one date.
- Pay on invoice. Send us your purchase order number and we raise the invoice against it. One PO can cover several bookings.
- Or pay by card for the whole team at once, in full or in three with Klarna.
- Book now, name people later. You will not always know in October who is free in November.
- Nobody starts until you say so. Stagger people across a rota instead of losing the whole team in one week.
- Everyone gets their own login and their own record. Ask us whenever you want to know where your people are up to.
Questions from Birmingham learners
Anything else? Ring 0800 197 9826.
Do you have a training centre in Birmingham?
No. The classroom and practical days are at our Derby centre, 4 Babington Lane, DE1 1SU. The theory is online, so Derby is the only travelling you do.
Why come to Derby when there are centres in Birmingham?
Because of how the course is split. Most local courses put you in a classroom for the whole thing. Here the theory is yours to do at home at your own speed, and you only travel for the classroom and practical.
How far is the Derby centre from Birmingham?
Direct trains run from Birmingham New Street to Derby, then it is a short walk into town. By car it is the A38, or the M42 and then the A38. For the time from where you actually are, put DE1 1SU into Google Maps or check National Rail.
Are these courses for beginners?
Some of them. PAT Testing and Safe Isolation need no previous electrical experience, and the 18th Edition is open to any level. Inspection and Testing, EV and Solar PV are for qualified electricians. What none of them is, is a route into the trade from scratch: that takes a full diploma or an apprenticeship.
Can I do the 18th Edition course online?
The theory, yes, and you work through it at your own pace. The assessment is in person at our Derby centre, and City & Guilds marks it.
Which PAT testing course do I need?
City & Guilds 2377-77, In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment. That is the one on this page.
What does each course cost?
The price on each card includes VAT and your City & Guilds exam fees, with nothing further to pay. Klarna splits it into three if you would rather.
Can we send a group from one site?
Yes. Send a team enquiry and we will come back with dates and one quote.
