City & Guilds marks your assessment and issues the certificate — usually within a few weeks.
The theory is entirely online and yours to work through at your own pace. Five modules you can take in Explore, Deep Dive or Listen mode, and revisit as often as you like. There is no online exam. When you are ready you sit one supervised written assignment (City & Guilds 2921-301) in person: short-answer and scenario-based questions, open-book with your BS 7671 and On-Site Guide. Note that this is a written assignment, not a practical. City & Guilds issues the certificate once you pass. New assessment dates are being finalised now and will be announced soon.
Who it's for
- You should already be a qualified electrician working to BS 7671, holding one of: a Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Installing Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment; Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Electrotechnical Services (Electrical Maintenance); Level 3 Electrotechnical Qualification; Level 3 NVQ in Electrotechnical Services (Experienced Worker); Level 3 Electrotechnical Experienced Worker Qualification; Level 3 Electrotechnical in Dwellings (Experienced Worker); or an ECS Gold Card / JIB Electrician Card.
- That qualification should have been achieved within the last 5 years, or you'll need evidence you've stayed current by holding the latest version of the Wiring Regulations qualification.
- This qualification is approved for learners aged 18 or above.

Do I need to be a qualified electrician?+
Yes. The EV award builds on existing electrical competence, so you should already hold relevant electrical qualifications and be working to BS 7671.
Is the assessment included?+
Yes. Your price covers the online modules, course materials and your assessment day at our Derby Training Centre, including the exam fee. Instalment options are available, and there is nothing extra to pay on the day.
How do I book my assessment?+

New assessment dates are being finalised now and will be announced soon. Tell us you are interested and we will confirm the date and venue with you as soon as they are set.
What happens on the assessment day?+
You sit the City & Guilds 2921-301 assignment under supervision: short-answer and scenario-based questions covering the course. It is open-book, so bring your BS 7671 and your On-Site Guide.
Does this cover the PEN fault problem?+
Yes. Protecting against an open PEN (or broken CNE) conductor on a PME supply is central to EV work, and the course covers all three accepted methods in full.
When do I get certified?+
City & Guilds issues your certificate once you pass the assessment, usually within a few weeks.
